L.B. Editing
Editing services for indie authors
Hi, I'm Larkin!
I am so excited to announce that I am now offering manuscript services for fellow indie authorsI think we all know that overwhelming 'oh no, what now' feeling that comes with finishing the first draft of a project. My goal, as an editor, is to give you a thorough and thoughtful analysis of your manuscript at a price you can afford.
Here's a little more about me. I am...
- The creator and Editor-In-Chief of Subtext Literary Magazine- A published indie author- Pursuing a degree in English in hopes of one day teaching at a university level
What services Do I offer?
Right now I am only offering manuscript critiques/evaluations and developmental editing.
Who are my services for?
- Indie authors who cannot afford editing that comes with a high price tag. I am offering cheap services for a few reasons. The first is that, while I do have editing experience in a casual and professional capacity, I am new to this particular scene. Second, I know what it is like to need a service that you cannot afford. I want to help authors realize their dreams no matter the budget.- Authors who need flexible payment options/plans. I do typically ask for compensation up front (just for the sake of simplicity). However, I am more than willing to be flexible on pricing. If you tell me what you can afford, I will work something out for you. In this same vein, I am an author who is always looking for character art. So, if you are an artist who is looking to trade art for my services, I would be very happy to do that.- Queer authors. I am trans/non-binary, bisexual, and ace. Nothing brings me more joy than supportng fellow queer creatives.- Authors who have trouble finding editors due to content or subject material. Along with most ofther genres, I am willing to edit taboo romance, grimdark fantasy, splatterpunk, and extreme horror.- Authors with shorter projects. Though I am more than happy to make exceptions, my specialty is in shorter pieces such as short stories and novellas.- Authors with RSD or authors who want to be handled gently without sacrificing honest feedback. Rejection Sensitive Dysphoria is a very big, very real roadblock for many neurodivergent creatives. As a fellow neurodivergent author, I understand that kindness and honesty can coincide. I will always give you a list of strengths as well as a list of potential improvements to consider.- Socially anxious authors. (Me too, bestie)- Authors with specific concerns. When you book with me, I will send you a questionnaire where you can note any specific portions of the project you have concerns about.
Manuscript critiques
Who is it best for?
Affectionately coined (by me) the 'dirt cheap developmental edit,' this service is for authors who would like a thoughtful big picture analysis of their manuscript. I will accept any completed draft, but this is great for those who have just finished their first.
What you get
- A 3+ page editorial report (depending on the length of your project). This will go over things like character, plot, narrative structure, voice, theme, tone, and pacing. You can also ask me to look out for any specific concerns you might have.- reactionary in-line comments (or my genuine reader reactions) and an occasional in-line critique.- A list of comparable media (comp titles)
